About the Artist

Dave Angell taught biology and ecology at Bismarck High School in Bismarck, ND for 30 years and has been photographing wildlife throughout his teaching career and beyond. Most of the images Dave creates are taken from the confines of small portable photographic blinds he has built. He has logged thousands of hours waiting for animals to approach him, once spending thirty-six continuous hours in a four foot cubical blind.

Subjects Dave has photographed have ranged in size from whales to minute invertebrate animals. Much of Dave's time is spent photographing birds visiting his rural backyard. Since restoring his residence to native grasses and wildflowers, Dave has documented over one hundred bird species visting the native prairie environment he and his wife, Chris, created.

Dave is a seven time winner of the annual North Dakota Non-Game Photo Contest sponsored by the North Dakota Game and Fish Department. His photographs have been featured in many North Dakota Outdoors magazines and calendar issues. He has contributed his work to national wildlife refuges and several of his photographs can be seen on educational posters displayed throughout North Dakota.
