Printing & Preparation Process

Most of these high quality prints were produced from color transparencies shot by Dave Angell and reproduced on an offset lithographic press at Image Printing, Inc., Bismarck, ND. Each print was closely supervised by the photographer during the printing process. If we are dissatisfied with the reproduction during any phase, the work is destroyed and the process repeated until the photographer is satisfied with the reproduction.

The process includes the use of archival quality paper and light resistant inks. Computer to plate technology is used and eliminates the need for a second generation of negatives in order to produce plates. This, accompanied with a random dot screen, which mimics a continuous tone photograph, assures a high quality reproduction that is as close to the original transparency as current technology allows.

Each print is dry mounted on foam board using a heat process. Then it is covered with a laminate to protect the print. This process is also done on a heat press. We use various types of laminates, some look like linen or canvas, while others have a satin or luster look to them. These laminates allow the customer to clean the photograph with a damp cloth to remove dust or finger prints. The laminate will also provide some protection from UV rays, while offering a glare-free image.
